My friend who was doing the foundation work for a new church building was concerned. He took me aside and said, “The dimensions they have given me for the foundation don’t match the dimensions for the building.” The church had ordered a prefabricated metal building for the exterior walls. My friend went on to explain, “If I build the foundation according to these measurements, the walls will not match correctly with the foundation and the roof is not going to match with the walls and foundation. If they don’t make the right corrections, the church is going to have problems.” I asked him if he had told the contractor. He said, “Yes, and he doesn’t believe me. He is adamant that he is right and I am wrong.” He said that he now had no choice but to continue with the dimensions given to him by the contractor.
The foundation was poured. The building was delivered. The walls were installed and the roof was set in place. When the first rains came after the completion of the building, water ran down one of the interior walls. It leaked that way for several years until the church had to spend a lot of extra money to correct the mistake. All of it could have been avoided if the foundation had been done right.
This same principle is true in life: “If the foundation isn’t right; nothing else will be right.” Over and over Scripture reminds us to build on the right foundation. The wise person will build his or her house on the Rock. That Rock is the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 3:11, “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (NKJV) This is true of your individual life, a marriage, a business, a church and a nation. The Psalmist wrote in Psalms 127:1, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.”
Make sure that Jesus Christ is the Foundation, the Builder, and the Architect of your life, home, marriage, your all. Make sure that you follow His blueprint–the Word of God. When the foundation is right and you follow God’s blueprint, everything else will be right.
